I believe that today clients are always interested in energy efficiency and many are willing and able to pay for the extra upfront costs involved. Education of the pool builder is vital and must come first. In the meantime, suppliers should continue to promote the virtues of their products in all forums.

Letter to the Editor RE: 'The top four reasons people remove pools'

I can see no good reason for people to remove pools. Taking into account that a new pool is anything from $60,000+ and to have it removed and the area rebuilt would be $20,000+, this would mean a total loss of $60,000 loss of value on the property, plus the $20,000 they would spend to remove the pool, leaving the owner approximately $80,000 out of pocket — for what?

A Victorian coroner has condemned the state's inaction on swimming pool fencing compliance after finding that a two-year-old's death by drowning was preventable. This is reportedly the fourth time since 2012 that a Victorian coroner has recommended action to prevent child drownings.
