Privacy curtain at council pool sparks anti-Muslim backlash

A Sydney council's decision to install privacy curtains around a 25 m indoor pool has drawn criticism from the community, due in part to media reports that the curtains were installed to appease the local Muslim community.

The Alan Shearer Activity Centre is a specialist recreational, sensory and social centre for people with disabilities. With its hydrotherapy pool having seen better days, the centre's management set about replacing it with a £500,000 state-of-the-art facility that was bigger and better. Whitewaters Ltd, the pool specialist that handled construction of the new pool, chose OC-1 filter media to handle the pool's filtration.


Survey reveals alarming attitudes to swim hygiene

A survey of swimming pool users in the US has revealed some laissez-faire attitudes to swimming pool use and health. The results show that many adults don't take swimming hygiene seriously, with as many as one in four adults (25%) saying they would swim within one hour of having diarrhoea.


Swim school founder nominated for 2017 Franchise Woman of the Year

The founder of JUMP! Swim Schools Fairfield has been nominated for the 2017 Australian Franchise Woman of the Year. Amanda Hicks opened the swim school in 2015 with just 62 students. The school now has nearly 500 students and Hicks plans to open her second franchise in late 2017.

Coffs council criticised as pool tender awarded to out-of-town contractor

Coffs Harbour Council has come under fire from locals for its decision to award the tender to manage three pools to out-of-town management company Lane 4 Aquatics. Currently, the pools are managed by local operators but Lane 4 will commence operations on 1 July.
