A man has sustained permanent damage to his eyesight after his neighbour allegedly poured liquid chlorine over his fence in what police say was a deliberate act.

The 31-year-old neighbour allegedly poured liquid chlorine over their shared fence in North Bondi, some of which hit the 45-year-old man in the face. The injured man was taken to Sydney Eye Hospital by ambulance where it was established that he has been partially blinded by the chemical.

Police believe that the act was deliberate.

The neighbour has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm and malicious damage. He was granted strict conditional bail and will appear at Waverley Local Court on 30 March.
