Waterco nozzle plate system
The specialist needs of facilities such as desalination plants and commercial swimming pools have prompted Waterco to develop a new method of fabricating a nozzle plate filter, which eliminates failure rates experienced in most other nozzle plate filters. This process has recently been granted a patent in Australia, with patent pending in other parts of the world.
Waterco’s nozzle plate system allows the introduction of pressurised air directly into the bottom of the filter medium. The uniform introduction of air and water through the nozzle plate provides vigorous agitation and filter bed expansion, which ensures effective air/water backwashing. The result is reduced backwashing times and reduced volumes of water.
Waterco has already installed the nozzle plate filter in a number of commercial projects including the Shoaiba power and desalination plant in Saudi Arabia, around 120 km south of Jeddah. An oil-fired CCGT plant, Shoaiba is the world’s third largest integrated water and power plant, and eight Micron SPDD3000 nozzle plate filters are being installed in Stage 2 of the facility’s construction. Water from the Red Sea is desalinated and used for cooling of the power plant plus to supply the municipal water system for the surrounding area.
