Waterco at forefront of new Australian standard
In line with the introduction of a new Australian Standard for pool and spa suction point covers, Waterco has launched a range of fittings which have been tested and comply with the new Standard AS1926.3 - Water recirculation and filtration systems.
The new standard will apply to swimming pools and spas built from 1 May 2011, as well as the replacement of existing suctions.
"Waterco has a range of suction fittings that have been independently tested and comply with the Standard," explains Bryan Goh, Waterco's group marketing director. "It's vital for our fittings to comply so we can ensure that our suctions meet the very latest safety requirements - and also to guarantee supply of certified suctions to our customers."
The Standard had remained untouched since 2003, and the major change followed a series of tragic drowning deaths, including the tragic death of a young girl who became trapped by a filter drain at the bottom of a spa.
"In the past few years there have been significant technological advances and the development of alternatives, so the newly amended standard now allows for safer suction point covers to be used. Builders, retailers and technicians should check with their supplier to ensure suction covers after 1 May comply with the new standard," says Spiros Dassakis, ceo of the Swimming Pool & Spa Association of NSW, who was instrumental in driving changes to the Standard.
Waterco has been at the forefront of making changes to its suction fittings to ensure they comply. These products were then independently inspected and tested by Queensland Testing Laboratory, a NATA accredited laboratory.
