Holiday park receives an essential makeover
When a run-down holiday park on the mid north coast of NSW needed some urgent attention, Essential Pools came to the rescue. After some careful considerations the resulting pool has now won recognition in both state and national SPASA Awards. Les Eakin from Essential Pools spoke to Pool + Spa Magazine about this project.
The client, Lakeside Resort and Holiday Park at Forster had recently changed owners. When the new owners, Ian and Lyn Frampton purchased the park, it was very run down and in urgent need of some love and care.
The existing 30-year-old fibreglass pool had a prime position within the park. On the first inspection of the area it was decided that the new pool complex take over from the existing pool site.
In the planning stage, the main considerations were given to the location of the pool and the design of the pool to ensure it was inclusive of both adults and children.
A proposal was drawn up with all this in mind, the pool area would consist of a children's wading pool with a serpent-like water feature in the centre and a glass window into the main pool. The main pool would include a large hollow beach area also with a water feature in the centre in the shape of a swimming serpent. Both of these areas would be covered by a shade sail. The beach area would then drop into the main pool area, large enough for the serious swimmer.
This concept was approved for construction. One of the challenges faced when constructing the pool was building the pool adjacent to the Wallis Lake, well below water level. We were also building in a very wet period. This challenge was overcome with the use of pumps and the consistency of the ground being clay kept the lake water out.
Some of the pool features included:
- L.E.D. underwater lighting
- In-floor circulation system, with an energy efficient pump
- Automatic chlorination and dosing system.
The pool won the gold award in the state and silver in the national awards.
Since the completion of the pool a children's playground area and a basketball court have also been added. With deluxe cabins and a fully renovated games room, it is a truly delightful pool and amenities area.
