Nubian Water Systems has announced the first in a series of steps to grow its water treatment and recycling business with the $1.5 million acquisition of UV-Guard Australia Pty Ltd. Through this acquisition, Nubian, which provides sustainable water solutions for the urban environment, will acquire UV-Guard, an ultraviolet disinfection technology and services business. Nubian will release a series of commercial announcements over the rest of 2012.

The combined entity, Nubian Water Systems, offers products and expertise to help governments, businesses and householders reduce their water footprint. Nubian now offers solutions for treating and recycling rainwater, greywater, stormwater and trade wastewater.

"Combining Nubian's strengths with UVGuard's specialist expertise adds up to a powerful offering," says Barry Porter, CEO of Nubian Water Systems. "It means customers can be confident that Nubian will provide them with world-class sustainable water solutions, whatever their location or business challenges."

"It also means that Nubian is in an even stronger position to ... provide effective solutions that meet all developing regulatory standards. Our aim is to fulfil the needs of Australia's domestic, commercial and industrial sectors," Barry says.

Nubian provides water solutions for urban environments including houses, apartments and commercial premises, as well as mine sites and remote accommodation. UV-Guard specialises in water disinfection systems used by local governments, manufacturing and the food and beverage sectors.

Both companies' customers will now enjoy access to the full range of products and services and benefit from expanded offerings and future innovations to help markets achieve Nubian's "Net Zero Water" philosophy to make full use of every drop of water entering a building.

Executive chairman of Nubian Water Systems, Gary Zamel, comments: "On current trends, demand for fresh water in our major urban centres will outstrip our existing infrastructure's capacity within the next 15 years."

"The water crisis is a problem that affects every Australian, and Nubian is right in the middle of this issue with solutions for maintaining water quality and availability. Water is increasingly being seen as a valuable commodity and Nubian is keeping fresh water in reach of future generations," Gary says.

UV-Guard's Australian business will be progressively integrated into Nubian's operations in Sydney.
