New CEO for SPASA Victoria
SPASA Victoria has appointed Chris Samartzis to the position of CEO.
Samartzis has been General Manager of VANA Ltd, the peak industry body for Victorian Newsagents, since 2015. During his time with VANA, he oversaw the development and growth of other VANA subsidiaries, Nparcel and Nadvert, which have a national footprint with approximately 1200 members across Australia.
He has owned and operated several businesses, along with being a past VANA and ANF Director. Samartzis has a deep knowledge and understanding of the SME sector with highly developed commercial acumen, corporate governance and strategic skills.
In a career spanning industry sectors including hospitality, FMCG, retail and wholesale distribution — and industry associations — he has built strong working relationships with government and key stakeholders, both external and internal, and is keen to promote SPASA Vic to enhance member and stakeholder value.
SPASA Victoria President Cliff Cooke said, “Samartzis’s appointment was the result of a comprehensive recruitment process to hire the best person for the position to continue to take the association forward. Chris has accumulated a wealth of experience to bring to the role at SPASA Vic and we look forward to him leading the team.”
Chris takes over from Brendan Watkins, who will finish up with SPASA Victoria on 15 August after 12 years of service.
