Landslide vote will see SPASA NSW/ACT merge with SPASA Australia
SPASA NSW & ACT members have voted overwhelmingly in favour of merging with SPASA Australia. In total, 97% of members who voted on a special resolution at a meeting last night (26 October) voted in favour of industry unification.
The decision will see SPASA NSW & ACT integrate into SPASA Australia, with NSW/ACT undertakings and surplus assets transferred to SPASA Australia.
“The decision to merge will futureproof our industry by bringing together the unique strengths of each association along with a diverse skills base to deliver new member benefits and services driven by advanced data and analytics. The board and I believe this merger reinforces our commitment to enhancing our united strategic plan,” said SPASA President Robert Guthrie.
“This is a historical step. Today’s announcement is the exciting next chapter for SPASA, bringing together leaders of industry with a shared mission of improving how we lobby, regulate, create more sales for members and provide better outcomes,” said Spiros Dassakis, CEO of SPASA NSW & ACT.
“Members will start to see a lot of positive engagement in the next few months as the formalities of the merger progress.”
The various industry sectors were well represented in the vote. In terms of the percentage of votes, the industry representation was:
- Pool and spa builders: 27%
- Pool and spa retail/service: 25%
- Supplier/manufacturer: 34%
- Other sectors combined 14%
SPASA says this shows that the merger has overwhelming support across all sectors of the industry.
