Study finds connection between indoor pool lifeguards and respiratory problems

Lifeguards who work more than 500 hours a year at indoor pools are two to six times more likely to suffer respiratory problems than those who work fewer hours, a Canadian study has found.

The Park Regis Hotel in Subiaco, Perth, is now home to Western Australia's first free-standing rooftop composite fibreglass pool. The custom-designed pool, constructed and installed by Aqua Technics Commercial, was lifted by crane to the top of the nine-storey hotel.

Belgravia Leisure has been appointed to manage 10 aquatic facilities across the Moreton Bay region. The company will now manage council pools at Bribie Island, Caboolture, Deception Bay, Woodford, Albany Creek, Ferny Hills, Lawnton, Murrumba Downs, North Lakes and Dayboro.


Tamworth aquatic centre plans brought forward

Tamworth Regional Council has brought forward plans for an aquatic centre in response to lobbying by a local group. The planning and design was originally set to be completed by December 2020, but the council has now promised to have the project 'shovel ready' by December 2018.

With its hydrotherapy pool having seen better days, the centre's management set about replacing it with a £500,000 state-of-the-art facility that was bigger and better. Survey reveals alarming attitudes to swim hygiene

A survey of swimming pool users in the US has revealed some laissez-faire attitudes to swimming pool use and health. The results show that many adults don't take swimming hygiene seriously, with as many as one in four adults (25%) saying they would swim within one hour of having diarrhoea.


Swim school founder nominated for 2017 Franchise Woman of the Year

The founder of JUMP! Swim Schools Fairfield has been nominated for the 2017 Australian Franchise Woman of the Year. Amanda Hicks opened the swim school in 2015 with just 62 students. The school now has nearly 500 students and Hicks plans to open her second franchise in late 2017.

Organisers of the NSW Country Pool Managers Conference have announced the date and location of the 2018 conference: 16 to 18 May in Nambucca Heads on the NSW mid-north coast. The venue and dates were announced on day two of the 2017 Country Pool Managers Conference, which is being held in Queanbeyan.
